Historical ornaments on sale in Snohomish

Last December we wrote about the Snohomish Historical Society's project to offer a historical ornament each holiday season.

In 2004, they sold an ornament of Snohomish's Morgan House, built in 1898. Each year the society will sell an ornament featuring a different old house.

The mock-up of the ornament arrived in a wooden crate, so it was decided all of them would. All are hand-painted with a picture of the house, so each one is unique.

This year's ornament is "Gingerbread House" on Avenue A in Snohomish. It is dated 2005 and signed on the back. Its $25 cost benefits the historical society. Ornaments are on sale at Kusler's Pharmacy, 700 Ave. D in Snohomish.

Children receive toys from Santa

Santa and veterans are teaming up for needy kids.

Toys will be given out from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at WorkSource Everett, located inside Everett Station, 3201 Smith Ave., and at WorkSource Lynnwood, 20311 52nd Ave. W.

WorkSource Snohomish County Veterans Unit and other community partners join for the sixth year to benefit children 13 and younger who are in need. Parents must be accompanied by children.

The event is coordinated by the WorkSource veterans unit, in partnership with the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots, Alderwood Terrace Rotary and the WorkSource staffs at Everett and Lynnwood.

Correction

Sultan School District starts winter break Friday. The date was incorrect in a box that accompanied a story about school district vacation schedules on Page A1 in Monday's Herald.
