PROPOSITION 1
Focus efforts now on telecommuting
My wife and I each commute for over one hour each way, so we were very disappointed that Proposition 1 didn't pass Tuesday.
But maybe, just maybe, there's a silver lining.
We have three critical issues facing commuters these days: global warming, traffic congestion and the high price of gasoline.
Why don't we focus our efforts on promoting telecommuting instead of building more roads as a way to solve all three issues?
Of course this won't work for everyone, but if a third of commuters can work from home one day a week, it will reduce greenhouse gases, won't cost the state a dime, reduce traffic congestion, can be implemented now without another ballot measure, help our families financially by saving gas money and certainly it will help our sanity and blood pressure too!
What's not to like?
We Washingtonians think of ourselves as a progressive and innovative bunch. We can do this. We're the home of high tech for Pete's sake! We can become known as the nation's leaders in telecommuting.
