Cedarcrest tightens hold on 1st place in Cascade Conference

CARNATION -- Cedarcrest delivered in the clutch and then some against Lakewood Friday at Tolt Middle School, earning a 9-2 Cascade Conference victory and solidifying its hold on first place.

Cedarcrest coach Scott Goldsberry attributed his team's offensive success to sound hitting and clutch play. He said his team faced a lot of full counts and counts in a hitter's favor.

"We were being really selective waiting for good pitches and when we saw them, we hit them," Goldsberry said.

Seven of Cedarcrest's nine runs came with two outs -- four in the fourth inning and all three runs scored in the fifth.

Catcher Craig Chittenden had a two-run home run for Cedarcrest and starting pitcher Travis Cook was able to get a pair of RBI on a double. Tommy Edwards of Cedarcrest was 2-for-4 and had two runs and an RBI.

Cook struck out seven batters and gave up three hits and an earned run.
