Fireworks on TV: Huey Lewis and the News, who are scheduled to play the Tulalip Amphitheater on Sept. 11, will perform for the Fourth of July concert on the Mall in the nation's capital on Friday.
Jimmy Smits will host the PBS concert, "A Capitol Fourth."
This year's event includes appearances by pioneering rocker Jerry Lee Lewis, 2006 "American Idol" winner Taylor Hicks, Broadway performer Brian Stokes Mitchell and classical singers Hayley Westenra, Harolyn Blackwell and Vittorio Grigolo, as well as the National Symphony Orchestra conducted by Erich Kunzel.
The show will include a tribute to the Olympics, taking place Aug. 8 to 24 in Beijing, where Kunzel will conduct at the opening ceremonies.
"A Capitol Fourth" will begin at 8 p.m. Friday in Washington, D.C. Because of the time difference, it will be broadcast at 7 p.m. Friday on local PBS stations. Confirm the time on your listings.
