MARYSVILLE -- A man was hospitalized with serious injuries after he was attacked, witnesses said, with a baseball bat at a Shell gas station early Thursday evening.
Police responded to a 911 call at 5:39 p.m. at the station on 172 St. NE in Lakewood. Officers searched for the suspect with police dogs.
The victim was flown by helicopter to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, acting captain for the Marysville Fire District Todd Furness said.
The helicopter landed at the Lakewood High School sports field across the street from the gas station.
"We saw the helicopter. It slowly came down and landed on the field. It stayed about an hour," said Byron Gouette, a Lakewood student who was out in the field running with his friends.
The police did not name the victim nor provide his condition. Police said the attack did not appear to be random.
T.J. Cha of Snohomish was working at a flower stand nearby.
"These two officers with a K-9 dog asked me if I saw anyone running away," he said.
