Seahawks' Spencer done for the year

RENTON -- The Seattle Seahawks placed center Chris Spencer on injured reserve Wednesday, effectively ending his season.

Spencer has been struggling with back problems, and coach Mike Holmgren said earlier this week that the IR was a possibility. Spencer did not play in Thursday's loss to Dallas. Steve Vallos started in his place.

Vallos will take over as the Seahawks' starting center for the final four weeks.

Seattle signed tackle Na'Shan Goddard to take Spencer's roster spot. Guard Mansfield Wrotto is likely to be the backup center.

Guard Mike Wahle is still on the active roster but probably won't play against New England on Sunday. Holmgren said earlier this week that IR was also a possibility for Wahle, who has an injured shoulder.
