The Everett High School girls soccer team claimed top honors on the Class 3A all-state squad announced this week.
Valerie Stahl, who helped lead the Seagulls to a state championship in November, was voted the state's Class 3A player of the year, and her coach, Kosta Pitharoulis, was selected 3A coach of the year.
Anna Cesari and Steve Bain of King's received similar honors in 1A volleyball.
Stahl, a senior defender, was one of two Everett players voted to the Class 3A first team. She was joined by senior forward Annie Sittauer.
In all, 10 local players received first-team recognition in soccer. The others were Megan Bolmes of Jackson (4A), Carly Holmes of Meadowdale (3A), Archbishop Murphy teammates Lindsey Bos, Caroline Brawner and Alli Beard (2A), and King's teammates Hillary Zevenbergen, Kendall Thoreson and Hillary Quinn (1A/2B/1B).
First team recognition in volleyball went to Monroe hitter Kylin Munoz (4A) and Darrington libero Mandy Powell (2B).
The all-state teams were selected in balloting by a panel of sportswriters representing 12 newspapers. The results were compiled by Rene Ferran of the Tri-City Herald.
