Fire damages Brier home

BRIER -- Firefighters Sunday night attacked a blaze raging through a large, two-story home.

Crews rushed to a house in the 23700 block of 29th Avenue W. about 8:20 p.m., Snohomish County Fire District 1 spokeswoman Leslie Hynes said. A neighbor called 911 after seeing flames in the windows.

Nobody was home, Hynes said. Six people were living at the house, including three young children.

The home was for sale. Snohomish County fire marshal's investigators estimated the damage at $350,000, Hynes said.

When they arrived, firefighters found the house engulfed in flames.

"When we got here, it was through the roof," Hynes said.

Crews battled the fire from the outside and were able to prevent it from spreading to other homes, she said.

More than an hour later, flames were still licking out of the broken windows and smoke was pouring through the roof. Fire trucks lined the street.

Holly Corner, 42, who lives two doors down, went outside to see the commotion.

Corner said she looked out her window earlier and saw flames in the back of the nearby home. "Flames were shooting at least 20 feet up," she said.
