In response to Wednesday's letter concerning the U.S. Postal Service, I would like to interject with some facts.
The Postal Service is run on money generated by the sales and service they provide their customers. The recession our country is experiencing is also affecting the Post Office. They are having to close facilities and lay off employees. The federal government bank and automobile company bailouts did not include the Postal Service.
The television commercials (which do not cost the taxpayers a cent) are not intended to steal away the private sector's (Fed Ex, UPS, etc.) customers, but to keep the Postal Service's customers. Remember, the Post Office has been around for over 200 years.
One more point I would like to stress: The USPS delivers your packages right along with your first class mail. These delivery routes have been established for decades. The Post Office does not have to drive 10 miles out of their way to deliver a package to a rural area. This process allows them to keep the rates affordable, and the service is outstanding.
