The death of 19-year-old skateboarder Daniel Ecklund, a tragedy for his loved ones, brought gifts of life for three others due to organ donation. Neil Woodruff, of Mountlake Terrace, was in his yard Aug. 30 when Ecklund collided on his longboard with a utility trailer being towed by a pickup.
Woodruff ran to help, administering CPR until paramedics arrived. Ecklund, of Brier, died Sept. 7 at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. Woodruff’s assistance helped the teen survive five days. His mother traveled from out of state to see him before he died. And Ecklund’s desire to be an organ donor was fulfilled. A father of seven received his right kidney, a young father of three who had served in the Marines was given his left kidney, and a man in his 60s has a better quality of life since receiving Ecklund’s liver.
