Habitat: Breeds in freshwater near forests. Winters in saltwater and large lakes and rivers.
Size: Length 18.5 inches; wingspan 26 inches
Fact: Females often lay their eggs in the other nests, sometimes even in the nests of other species. The young are able to feed on their own as soon as they are born. The mothers provide only some protection.
