Great blue heron
Habitat: Variety of open habitats, including streams, ponds, meadows and fields
Size: Length 46 inches; wingspan 72 inches
Fact: According the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, great blue herons have specially shaped neck vertebrae. These let the herons shape their neck into an S-shape. This makes them more aerodynamic in flight and also allows them to strike quickly to capture prey.
