Wilson's snipe
Habitat: Along edges of freshwater or flooded fields
Size: Length 10.5 inches; wingspan 18 inches
Fact: The snipe makes a noise called "winnowing." The sound is produced by the tail feathers as air flows over them while the snipe makes a steep dive. The male uses the sound to defend his territory.
