Couple hurt when car rolls off Highway 529
EVERETT - A man and a woman were hospitalized Sunday after their car went over an embankment on Highway 529 and rolled 150 feet before coming to a stop on the edge of the tide flats at Union Slough, an Everett fire official said.
The woman was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, said Don Schwab, an acting battalion chief with the Everett Fire Department. The man, who was driving, was taken to the Colby campus of Providence Hospital in Everett. The man and woman are in their late 40s, Schwab said. No further information on the two or their condition was available Sunday.
The fire department received the call on the accident at 3:36 p.m., Schwab said. The late '80s model Pontiac Fiero was going northbound when the car went off the road just south of the slough, he said. It is believed the driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel, Schwab said.
The roof of the car had to be removed to rescue the woman, he said.
