Seems Like Yesterday

50 years ago (1955)

Herb Wilson Insurance and Real Estate had moved to 1608 Hewitt Ave., between Dean's Pharmacy and Home Shoe Shop. Their staff had been enlarged and they had more staff and office space to adequately serve customers.

The new Sons of Norway Lodge of Silvana would be dedicated tomorrow evening. The one-story concrete brick building was 76 by 72 feet with an auditorium of 2,500 square feet, large dining room and kitchen. The building was valued at $60,000, but the lodge's indebtedness was less than $10,000 because of all the volunteer labor.

25 years ago (1980)

People in business news were Glenn Humann, who had been named manager of customer billing and data systems at PUD; Dennis Wittren, who had qualified for the Standard Insurance Company's leaders club; Jack Hyer Jr., who was named chief executive officer of Klahanie, Ltd.; Ronald Jacobson, who was the new president of Rotary; and Allan White, who was named executive director of Everett Housing Authority.

Everett firefighters did what they could to control a blaze that destroyed a turn-of-the-century apartment house at 1427 Chestnut St. this morning. The old Delta Apartments were once used by railroad crews during stopovers in Everett, fire department battalion chief Al Langton said.
