Sprinkler system saves warehouse from worst of fire
EVERETT - Everett firefighters credit a sprinkler system with stopping the spread of a warehouse fire Wednesday night.
The fire was in the Achilles warehouse, a company that makes, among other things, plastic components for airplanes. The warehouse housed the ingredients to make plastic, and the fire could have been worse if it hadn't been snuffed out by the sprinkler system, Everett Fire Department Battalion Chief Nick Walker said.
"If it wasn't for the sprinklers, we would have lost their building," Walker said. "We can't stress that enough - thank goodness for sprinklers."
The fire began about 7:40 p.m. in the steel building in the 1400 block of 80th Street SW. When firefighters arrived, they realized the sprinklers had stopped the blaze and they concentrated on containment and salvage, Walker said.
The cause appeared to be accidental, but is under investigation. A damage estimate wasn't available Wednesday night.
Monroe: Nine fire units respond to post office
Monroe firefighters responded Wednesday afternoon to a fire at the Monroe post office, 122 N. Blakely St.
Nine fire units from Snohomish County Fire Districts 3, 4 and 7 responded to the call. Firefighters searched the building and found a furnace emitting smoke. Power was turned off to the furnace and the building ventilated.
The cause of the fire was a faulty furnace fan motor, fire officials said.
