Fireplace embers ignite roof

EVERETT - The roof of a house on S. Second Avenue in Everett was damaged Monday night when embers from a fireplace chimney landed on the roof and caught fire, Everett Fire Department Battalion Chief Steve Parker said.

Only one resident was at home at the time of the blaze, Parker said. A neighbor knocked on the resident's front door and informed her that the roof was on fire. Parker estimates that the fire caused $20,000 or more in damage. No one was injured in the blaze.
