Art League honors: Three seniors from Stanwood High School and one from Oak Harbor High School have been selected to receive $1,000 scholarships from Art League North of Mount Vernon. Madeline O’Brien of Camano Island plans to attend Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, Calif. Cassie Olsen of Camano Island will attend Everett Community College with plans to transfer to Western Washington University and become an art teacher. Rebecca Olsson of Camano Island plans on attending Western Washington University’s graphic design program. All three seniors are students of Gail Merrick. Snoqualmie Beadles of Oak Harbor will attend the University of Washington, then plans to transfer to the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. This is the seventh year scholarship money has been raised for awards to students from high schools in Skagit, Island and Snohomish counties.
Harbour Pointe creative kids: Harbour Pointe Middle School in Mukilteo’s category for Student of the Month of May was “creative ingenuity.” The following students were chosen for best demonstrating this quality: Jassine Chow, Nicholas Langenegger, Haley Peterson and Ben Tynan, sixth grade; Matthew Bell, Jesslyn Freeman, Kimberly Guttinger and Haley Hanson, seventh grade; and Blane Brinkley, Kimberley Jorgensen, Seo Hee Moon and Timothy Varner, eighth grade.

NSCS grads: North Sound Christian High School’s 2006 graduating class of 30 has two valedictorians. Amy Hood, daughter of Ronald and Elizabeth Hood, and Rosa Gibbons, daughter of Tom and Debbie Gibbons, had identical grade-point averages of 3.97. The class salutatorian is Anna Bolinski, daughter of George and Maureen Bozlinski, with a cumulative GPA of 3.93.
Thirteen of the 30 students received the President’s Award for Educational Excellence, which recognizes academic success in the classroom and high scores on the SAT college-placement test.
The 13 students are: Zach Bacik, Anna Bozlinski, Ashley Clemmer, Daniel Dawson, Rosa Gibbons, Amy Hood, Alan Johnson, Sarah Layman, David Mesick, Nathan Rheaume, Josh Schettler, Derek Sellers and Sabrina Tran.
