Cascade raises share dividend
Cascade Financial Corp. has declared a 7.5-cent-a-share dividend. The payment will be made July 26 to shareholders of record as of July 12. The payout represents a 4.2 percent increase from the previous quarter, after adjusting for a 5-for-4 stock split in May.
Job trainers win $300,000 vet grant
Snohomish County will receive $300,000 from the Labor Department to aid homeless veterans, U.S. Sen. Maria Cantwell, D-Wash., announced Wednesday. The money will be sent to the Workforce Development Council to help veterans get back into the work force.
Vets with stolen info will get credit help
Veterans whose personal information was stolen from a Veterans Affairs employee's home last month will receive free credit monitoring from the government to protect against identity theft, the government said Wednesday. Names, Social Security numbers and birth dates for up to 26.5 million veterans and military troops were included on a laptop computer that was stolen.
FedEx earnings increase 27 percent
FedEx Corp. reported a 27 percent increase in fourth-quarter earnings Wednesday and raised its profit forecast for the coming year. The company earned $568 million, or $1.82 a share, in the quarter that ended May 31. That was up from $448 million, or $1.46 a share, a year ago. On average, Wall Street analysts predicted earnings of $1.77 a share on sales of $8.42 billion.
Goodyear to cut some private labels
Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., the world's largest tiremaker, on Wednesday said it was axing a third of its private label tire business and cutting manufacturing jobs to improve profits. The Akron, Ohio-based company said about 10 brands of tires manufactured by Goodyear but sold under other names will be eliminated.
Adobe and Google forge Toolbar deal
Adobe Systems Inc. said Wednesday it has signed an agreement with Google Inc. to distribute the Google Toolbar with various Adobe products. Financial terms of the deal weren't disclosed. The term of the agreement also wasn't disclosed, with Adobe referring to it only as a "multiyear" deal. Adobe said the estimated revenue from the agreement for fiscal 2006 was factored into its previously announced financial targets.
