Pipe breaks at Everett marina

A broken water main caused minor flooding and a sinkhole in a parking lot in Everett's north marina Sunday evening.

The break in the 12-inch main flooded the parking lot in front of the Port of Everett's Marine View Reception and Conference Center and next to the Milltown Sailing Association. The break was reported at 7:09 p.m., Everett Fire Department Assistant Chief Warren Burns said.

The water did not get into any of the buildings but did get into some cars, firefighters at the scene said. The sinkhole was circular, about 15 feet in diameter, four to five feet deep and contained a fire hydrant.

The cause of the break had not been determined as of Sunday evening. Water supplying the area was turned off, but restored sometime after 8 p.m.
