Chamber honors Hansen's efforts

The group notes the achievements of the former Everett mayor and nine others.

EVERETT - Ten people, two businesses and even a couple of buildings will be honored Wednesday night by the Everett Area Chamber of Commerce for their service to business.

The chamber's annual dinner and awards gala will begin with a 5:30 p.m. reception at the Edward D. Hansen Conference Center at the Everett Events Center. Both Hansen and the center itself will be among the honorees.

"We honored Ed this year for all the impact he has had on the Everett community in all his various roles," Louise Stanton-Masten, the chamber's president and CEO, said Monday.

Hansen, who was elected mayor of Everett three times, also served as manager of the Snohomish County PUD, helped found Frontier Bank, led the team that built Harbour Pointe Golf Course, served as chairman of the Snohomish County Democratic Party and was involved in a number of other civic activities. He also pushed hard to ensure construction of the events and conference center, which the city named after Hansen earlier this year.

For a lifetime of community service, Hansen will receive the chamber's Lifetime Achievement Award. The events center will received the Economic Sparkplug Award for its role in the ongoing redevelopment of Everett's downtown.

"We had to think up a new award," Stanton-Masten said of the one for the center.

Other honorees:

  • Larry O'Donnell, Henry M. Jackson Citizen of the Year. O'Donnell, an Everett native, has been strongly involved in many groups that allow him to make his mark on the community. He's also produced a number of books that help preserve the city's history.

  • Scott Carson, Corporate Executive of the Year. The president of the Boeing Co.'s commercial airplane division has done much to advance both the company's and the community's economic prospects. He vision for Boeing has helped put the city on a world stage as an aerospace center.

  • Tom Lane, Small Business Executive of the Year. The CEO of Dwayne Lane's Family of Auto Centers is honored for leadership and initiative, including development of customer service and employee training programs.

  • Everett Mayor Ray Stephanson, Service to Business Award. For continued support of business activities that help the economy.

  • Future of Flight Aviation Center. For working with Boeing to provide a showcase for aerospace innovation.

  • Crystal Donner, Perteet Engineering, employee of the year. For community involvement and leadership.
