An aging ferry that serves the Keystone to Port Townsend run was taken out of service Monday after Washington State Ferries officials found a crack in the hull.
Service was suspended while the Klickitat is examined, officials said.
They don’t know how long it will take to get the ferry in service again.
There is no backup vessel to serve the route, ferry officials said.
Ferry officials described the problem as a crack in the hull plating. Water was reported seeping in on Saturday.
An inspection by ferry and U.S. Coast Guard officials on Monday led to the vessel being taken out of service until it can be repaired, ferry officials said.
The Klickitat is one of four vessels in the state’s ferry fleet built in 1927. Along with sister ships Illahee, Nisqually and Quinault, it is one of the oldest passenger ferries in the country.
