Everett house catches fire; two puppies rescued
EVERETT - A caged bird died but two puppies were rescued Thursday after a fire started in the living room of an Everett home.
The fire was reported about 1:35 p.m. in the 2100 block of 16th Street, just up the street from Everett Fire Department station 2. Firefighters doused the flames within minutes of arriving, Battalion Chief Nick Walker said.
Firefighters rescued two puppies from the house. A bird was found dead in its cage, Walker said. The homeowner, who was home when the fire started, was uninjured, he said.
The home sustained smoke damage, and firefighters had to break through walls in the living room to make sure the fire was out, Walker said.
Three adults and two children who live at the house have been given temporary housing by the Snohomish County Chapter of the American Red Cross.
Investigators are trying to determine the cause of the fire.
Bellingham: Arlington man dies following stunt
An Arlington man, 46, died Wednesday from injuries he sustained Monday in a motorcycle accident near Bellingham, the Washington State Patrol said.
James A. Pennell was attempting a stunt on his motorcycle in a cow pasture when he was thrown from the bike, troopers said.
He was taken to St. Joseph Hospital in Bellingham where he died Wednesday.
Troopers believe the man did not have a motorcycle endorsement and was not wearing a helmet.
