Eric LaFrance has been hired by Perteet Inc. to serve as a project manager for the consulting company's surface water team. One of the projects LaFrance will be working on is the Snohomish County Parks and Recreation Department's River Meadows Project. Perteet provides services in transportation design and transit planning, environmental and community planning, and construction administration.

Natasha Jaksich is the new marketing and communications manager with the Everett Area Chamber of Commerce. A graduate of Washington State University, she previously worked as a reporter with the Pierce County Community Newspaper Group, as a public relations consultant with World Impact Network and as liaison between the Fife Area Chamber of commerce and the media in Pierce County.

Dr. Amy Norman, an Everett dentist, has been recognized by the Las Vegas Institute for Advance Dental Studies with an appointment to the position of clinical instructor. A graduate of the institute, Norman will teach in Las Vegas several times a year. Norman's Everett practice centers on cosmetic and neuromuscular dentistry. Peggy Zoro has joined the wealth management group at Wells Fargo as its North Puget Sound regional manager. Zoro will oversee investment, trust and private banking professionals serving Wells Fargo customers in Everett, Mount Vernon, Anacortes and Bellingham.

Duffy Burns and Shane Cooper, firefighters with Snohomish County Fire District 1, recently completed a nine-month paramedic training program at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. Burns and Cooper have been full-time firefighters with Fire District 1 for more than 15 years. All Fire District 1 firefighters are certified as either paramedics or emergency medical technicians. The majority of the district's emergency calls are for medical aid. Firefighters-paramedics are dispatched to the most serious, life-threatening emergencies.

Graham Smith, Arlington city councilman-at-large, recently earned a certificate of municipal leadership from the Association of Washington Cities. Smith completed more than 30 hours of training credits to earn the distinction. Graham previously served on the Arlington Airport Commission. He is an associate vice president in investments at A.G. Edwards and Sons in Everett.

Steve Tribble has joined Olympic Hot Tub Co. as manager of the company's newly remodeled Everett retail showroom. Tribble, of Bothell, has 11 years of sales experience in the spa industry.

Lars Johnson, an executive vice president and chief financial officer of Everett's Cascade Bank, will present at the Howe Barnes Hoefer & Arnett Annual Community Bank Conference in Chicago at 1:50 p.m. today Pacific time. He can be viewed at www.howebarnes.com.

Education

Registration forms are available now for Washington State University Extension training for horticulture professionals. Professionals and home gardeners, who want to learn horticultural best practices, identification, troubleshooting and environmentally responsible options for garden challenges, can register. The training program is the same as provided to WSU Master Gardeners, but without the required payback of volunteer hours. Course sessions include botany, soils, plant pathology, entomology, pruning, vegetables, tree fruit, composting, pesticides and pest control. The program runs 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 10 to March 13. A $500 registration fee includes all training materials. Space is limited. Registration deadline is Oct. 31. Information technology skills training will be offered in October by the Workforce Development Council of Snohomish County. The council recently received an $84,000 grant from Microsoft to offer basic IT training in Lynnwood, Edmonds and Everett. The target enrollment population for the training includes public assistance recipients, those with limited English-language skills, low-income adults, dislocated workers and at-risk youth. A free tax workshop for owners of new or small businesses is set for 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at Everett Public Library, 2707 Hoyt Ave., Everett. Offered by the Everett office of the state Department of Revenue, the class will help participants with excise taxes, reporting classifications, deductions, sales tax collection and record-keeping requirements. Web site improvement is the focus of a training session offered by the Marysville Women's Network for Entrepreneurial Training. Good deeds

Providence General Foundation recently announced that $653,509 has been given to expand Providence Everett Healthcare Clinic's facilities and mental health services. A full-time mental health practitioner will be hired and the facility expansion, scheduled to be complete by September, will increase the size of the existing facility at 1001 N. Broadway, by 50 percent. Donors include United Way of Snohomish County, Everett Clinic Foundation, EverTrust Foundation, Providence General's Children's Association, Employees Community Fund of Boeing Puget Sound, Frontier Bank, Butler Trust and individual and family gifts.
