Kamiak slashes its way into first place

LYNNWOOD The Kamiak Knights scored early and often as they romped 10-1 over the Lynnwood Royals to take sole possession of first place in the Wesco South Thursday.

Emily Becklehymer scored two minutes into the match off an assist from Caitlin Calhoun and the floodgates opened from there. Kelli Stewart, who is verbally committed to the University of Washington, led Kamiak with four goals and an assist despite playing just half the game.

"(Stewart) had a good day," Kamiak head coach Beth Stewart said. "She was all over the field and had a great game. I (finally) just had to have her stop."

Sophomore Hillary Hermes added three goals and an assist for the Knights, who led 7-0 at halftime.

Coach Stewart said she was happy with the way her team was able to find the net after playing to a scoreless tie against Shorecrest Tuesday night, a match in which the Knights hit the crossbar three times and the sidebar twice.

"I was really proud with the way the girls came out," coach Stewart added. "It was nice to see them finish the ball (tonight)."

Kamiak also received single goals from Kara Munoz, and Ashley Hermes. Lynnwood's lone tally came from Jerrica Kang in the second half.
