New UW campus sites cut to four

OLYMPIA – State officials announced today they are down to looking at four sites as a possible home for a future University of Washington campus in Snohomish County.

Two of the locations are in Everett, one is in Marysville and the other is in Lake Stevens.

Officials of the state, the university and a consultant will examine each of the four to determine the pluses and minuses of developing a four-year university on the property.

By Nov. 15, the consultant, NBBJ of Seattle, will suggest its preferred site.

"At this point the belief is any one of these four sites can work and now you really run them through the ringer,” said Deb Merle, higher education adviser to Gov. Chris Gregoire.

Information on the sites will be shared at public meetings Wednesday in Oak Harbor and Oct. 3 at the Everett Events Center.
