Power restored just in time for the Mukilteo Invite

FEDERAL WAY -- A two-hour power outage struck the Mukilteo Invite at the King County Aquatic Center on Saturday, threatening to cancel the meet.

"We almost bagged it," Kamiak coach Chris Erickson said.

But the lights came back on as the start time was pushed back two hours to noon.

Snohomish freshman Melissa Randolf won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.94 seconds and the 100 butterfly in 58.68, both state qualifying times.

Marysville-Pilchuck's Kami Girard won the 100 backstroke in 1:01.98. Snohomish's Sarah Shawback was second in 1:02.30 -- both qualifying for state in the process.

Martha Pohl of Everett finished third in 1:09.19 to qualify for state in the 100 backstroke. Emily Ferreira of Snohomish finished fourth behind Pohl, also qualifying for state in 1:09.55.

Ferreira was also third in the 200 individual medley with a state qualifying time of 2:16.55.

Girls soccer

Stanwood 0, Lake Stevens 0 (2OT): At Stanwood, the Vikings and the Spartans played to their second 0-0 tie of the season. "It was a defensive match. It was well played on both sides," Stanwood coach Lori Stunz said. "Both teams had opportunities, but neither capitalized." Erial Three Stars had the shutout for Lake Stevens and Sarahann Jackson had her second shutout of the season for Stanwood.

At Stanwood H.S.

Goalkeepers--Stanwood: Jackson. Lake Stevens: Three Stars. Records--Stanwood 3-3-3 league and overall. Lake Stevens 3-3-3, 3-3-3.

Cascade at Oak Harbor: The game was not played due to lack of officials. No makeup date was announced.

Monroe 2, Everett 1: At Everett, the Bearcats upset the second-place Seagulls in the Wesco North contest. "They did what they needed to do and we didn't," Everett coach Kosta Pitharoulis said. Shelby Sweet found the net on a long, arcing shot in the 42nd minute for a 1-0 Monroe lead. The Bearcats added another goal in the 60th minute by Kaylie Sowler. Annie Sittauer converted a penalty kick in the 78th minute for Everett's lone score.

At Lincoln Field

Goals--Monroe: Sweet, Sowler. Everett: Sittauer. Goalkeepers--Monroe: Philippart. Everett: Nesting. Records--Monroe 3-5-1 league and overall. Everett 7-2-0, 7-2-0.

Shorewood 7, Mariner 0: At Everett, seven different Thunderbirds scored goals as Shorewood won the Wesco South contest. Alexandra Bartlett, Margaux Rotter, Amanda Clark, Stephanie Lim, Pamela London, Erin Tenny and Kelsey Johnson all had goals for Shorewood.

Shorecrest 2, Kamiak 0: At Shoreline, Erin Springer scored a first-half goal off an assist by Agen Heffernan and Heffernan scored a second-half goal off an assist by Springer as the Scots won the Wesco South contest. "(It was a) huge win," Shorecrest coach Mindy Dalziel said. "It was one of those games where we clicked as a team and played to our potential." Dalziel added that goalkeeper Caroline Towles made several big saves toward the end of the contest as she recorded her fifth shutout of the season.

Mountlake Terrace 2, Lynnwood 1: At Edmonds, Kylie Hollenbeck scored two first-half goals for the Hawks in the Wesco South contest. Adriana Moya had Lynnwood's lone score.

Meadowdale 2, Edmonds-Wooway 0: At Edmonds, Julia Fjortoft and Ashley Correa had first-half goals for the Mavericks in the Wesco South game. Meadowdale goalkeeper Tanya Zickefoose recorded the shutout.

Boys cross country

Nike Pre-Nationals: At Portland, Ore., Everett finished 13th in the Northwest Champs division. The Seagulls' top finisher was Axle Stanovsky, who finished No. 25 with a time of 16 minutes, 3.38 seconds. Jackson finished third in Division 1, with Jordan Lance leading the way in 18th place with a time of 16:38.11. Mountlake Terrace was fifth in Division 1, with No. 14 Tyler Hill recording a time of 16:30.39. Snohomish was seventh in Division 1. The Panthers were paced by Chris Goodman at No. 7, with a time of 16:16.03. Edmonds-Woodway finished 15th in Division 1, but had the winner in Yon Yilma, who won the race with a time of 15:57.01.

King's West Invite: At Bremerton, Sterling Hoza finished sixth with a time of 16 minutes, 34.37 seconds and Conner Ballew was eighth at 16:41.13 to lead Archbishop Murphy.

Sunfair Invite: At Yakima, the Monroe boys finished 19th and the South Whidbey boys finished 27th overall in the 40-team field. Blake Koszarek finished 10th in the No. 2 boys race with a time of 17 minutes, 38.5 seconds to lead the Falcons. Scott Stallman finished 30th for South Whidbey in 17:53.3 in the No. 3 race. The Falcons' Eric Stallman finished 32nd in the No. 6 race in 18:20.0. Jesse Van Horn finished 10th in 16:48.0 to lead the Bearcats in the No. 5 race. Kyle Ingersoll finished sixth for Monroe in the No. 2 race in 17:22.9. Clint Miracle finished 23rd in 17:59.3 for the Bearcats in the No. 3 race.

Girls cross country

Nike Pre-Nationals: At Portland, Ore., Snohomish finished seventh in the Northwest Champs division. The Panthers' Ellie Bonner finished 20th with a time of 18 minutes, 49.06 seconds. Fellow Panther Kara Sporrong was 26th in 18:57.84. Edmonds-Woodway finished ninth in Division 1. E-W's Jordan Huegli finished 16th with a time of 19:59.08. Jackson finished 12th in Division 2. The Timberwolves' top finisher was Laice Valera, who placed 25th with a time of 20:19.22. Mountlake Terrace was 17th in Division 2, led by Corrina Cheever, who finished 50th with a time of 21:16.27.

King's West Invite: At Bremerton, Lauren Moran won the girls race with a time of 18 minutes, 33.64 seconds, Kelsy Rasmussen was second in 19:29.04 and Sarah McDade was third in 19:41.39 as Archbishop Murphy swept the top three places.

Sunfair Invite: At Yakima, South Whidbey finished fourth overall and Monroe finished eighth in the 32-team event. The Falcons were led by Erica Johnson, who finished 10th in the No. 6 race in 19 minutes, 57.2 seconds. Caroline Habel finished fourth in the No. 5 race in 20:03.7 for the Falcons. Chantal White was second in the No. 2 race for South Whidbey in 20:14.7. Monroe's Lyndy Davis was ninth in the No. 7 race in 18:49.1 to lead Monroe. Teammate Suzanna Ohlsen was second in the No. 4 race in 20:01.2. Becca Cragerud finished fifth in the No. 3 race for Monroe in 20:24.7.
