'Wolvie' the wolverine makes his debut as mascot at Little Cedars Elementary School.

Physical Education teacher Scott Wilson, dressed as "Wolvie" the wolverine, high fived with youngsters who weren't too shy or scared of him at Little Cedars Elementary School in Snohomish on Wednesday.

"Wolvie" was unveiled as the official mascot at the school following a democratic selection process. The wolverine was the overwhelming favorite.

The school of 700 students started with 70 name suggestions and whittled the list to three finalists: wolverines, falcons and grizzly cubs. Some of the previously rejected names included the arborists, dragon flies, flying squirrels, lumberjacks, peacocks and spelunkers.

The lively unveiling ceremony included the cheerleaders and a drummer band from Snohomish High School.
