Boeing nets big 787 order from Chile's LAN Airlines
The Boeing Co. picked up its first order for a 787 Dreamliner since announcing a six-month delay in mid-October.
Chile's LAN Airlines has ordered 26 787s and has leased another six from International Lease Finance Corp. The Santiago-based carrier also will add four 777 Freighters – two of those will be leased from GE Commercial Aviation Services.
LAN’s total order with Boeing is worth roughly $5 billion at list prices.
Boeing’s 787, which will enter service in late 2008, has won 736 orders from 51 customers. Last month, Boeing officials pushed back the first flight and first deliver of its fuel-efficient Dreamliner by six months, citing supply chain and assembly problems.
Boeing has received 82 requests from 11 customers for its 777 Freighter, which also enters service in late 2008.
