Murphy to play for fifth place in 2A tourney

KENNEWICK -- Despite what head coach Jim Hardy called a "brutal schedule," the Archbishop Murphy volleyball team won two of three matches Thursday to advance to the consolation final in the 2A state tournament at the Toyota Center.

After losing a close match to Pullman (25-22, 24-26, 26-24, 23-25, 13-15) in the first round, the Wildcats defeated North Mason 25-21, 25-16, 23-25, 18-25, 15-13 and swept Colville 25-22, 25-18, 25-14.

"We played outstanding ball and controlled the match all the way," Hardy said.

Rachel Shober combined for 27 kills and 35 digs in the three matches. Archbishop Murphy plays West Valley at 6:30 p.m. today for fifth place. This is the Wildcats first trip to the trophy round.
