by Michelle Dunlop Airbus says it will break records in both commercial jet orders and deliveries in 2007. The company’s sales chief estimates Airbus already has 1,122 orders this year. (Be sure to guess how many orders you think Boeing will win in 2007.)
This comes after the European jet maker split a 200-jet order with rival the Boeing Co. from Dubai Aerospace Enterprise, a fleet leasing company, on the second day of the Dubai Air Show. DAE gave Airbus a $13.5 billion order for 70 A320s and 30 A350s.
But the air show in Dubai has mostly gone Airbus’s way. On Sunday, Airbus won a lucrative deal from Emirates Air, which opted for up to 120 A350s over Boeing’s 787s.
Airbus’s John Leahy says the plane maker will have more than 300 orders for the A350 by the end of 2007.
