More signings

Other local student-athletes officially accept college scholarships

Posted at 11:21 am by Mike Cane, Herald Writer

Yesterday in The Herald I reported on local prep sports standouts who signed and submitted a NCAA National Letter of Intent, officially accepting athletic financial aid. Here are some others who also have signed or plan to sign today.

Girls basketball
Eryn Jones, Meadowdale — Portland State University (signed Thursday)
Allison Burns, Snohomish — Dixie State College (signed Thursday)

Softball
Jordan Birch, Monroe — Illinois State University (signed Thursday)

Volleyball
Kaytlyn Dill, Lynnwood — Seattle University (signed Wednesday)
Kelsey Brennan, Monroe — New Mexico State University (plans to sign tonight)

The early signing period for several sports (but not football or soccer) started Wednesday and runs through Nov. 21. I will continue to report other signings as I learn of them.
One fun thing about signing day is hearing what the prep stars’ future college coaches say. (College coaches aren’t allowed to publicly comment on recruits until the Letter of Intent is signed and received.)
Here is a sample of what Sacramento State women’s basketball head coach Dan Muscatell said about recruit Karri Gallagher, a 6-foot-3 senior post from Lake Stevens High School.
“Karri is a package we haven’t had for a few years here,” Muscatell said. “At 6-foot-3, she runs the floor well and has good hands. With her frame, and her (natural) abilities, she’ll be a solid post player in the Big Sky Conference.”
Meanwhile, Portland State women’s basketball head coach Sherri Murrell said this about Eryn Jones, a senior guard from Meadowdale High:
“Eryn is an outstanding point guard with great court sense. Her competitive demeanor and ability to shoot the ball will make her an immediate asset to this team.”
