Boy Scout Tree of Giving through Dec. 20 at the Everett Mall, 1000 SE Everett Mall Way. A joint project of the mall, Fluke Corp. and the Mount Baker Council of Boy Scouts of America, the tree is covered with wish-list tags. Shoppers select a tag and purchase the items listed. Tags represent wishes from families and senior clients of more than 30 local nonprofit agencies. Last year, more than 1,500 gifts were purchased and left at the tree for Scouts to distribute. Everett Gospel Mission offers emergency shelter and services that meet basic needs. The stores plan to make a donation of $50 for each hour a group presents holiday music. Participating groups -- organizations, bands, choirs, families or friends -- may designate a local food bank or the Salvation Army as the beneficiary of the donation. Monroe Community Caring Drive in November benefits its senior citizens. Especially needed are toiletry items. The items will be distributed to seniors through the East County Senior Center. Donation bins are at various locations around Monroe, including the post office, City Hall, the chamber of commerce, the senior center, Valley General Hospital, Monroe High School, Main Street Books and the YMCA. Senior Services of Snohomish County serves more than 35,000 people with disabilities and seniors and their families and caregivers through transportation, nutrition, housing and social services.
