Christmas Room provides clothes for children

From a conversation with coordinator Tracy Ulrich:

Q: The Christmas Room provides new clothes, school supplies and toys for children and teens from low-income and homeless families in the Lakewood, Stanwood and Camano communities. What do you need most?

A: New socks and underwear, especially for those age 10 and older. Everybody wants to bring in things for babies, but out of more than 800 kids served last year, 300 were teenagers. And that age group cares about what they wear.

Q: How long has the Christmas Room been serving the community?

A: Iris Cotton started the effort in the mid-1980s. We continue to count on schools, churches and the food bank to help us identify kids who need help. Families then call us at 360-629-5257 to make an appointment to visit the Christmas Room, this year from Dec. 15 through 19.

Q: How many volunteers work with you?

A: We have about 40 regular volunteers who do a variety of jobs. We can always use more. For more information, call us at 360-629-8181.

Q: Donations?

A: Can be dropped off, marked for Christmas Room, at the Stanwood Food Bank, 27030 102nd Ave. NW, Stanwood, or during the Christmas Room week at 26916 98th Drive NW, Stanwood.
