Snohomish County, state officials assess damage 12/4/07
River flooding not so bad; road damage more severe 12/4/07

Commute tough in south county

Posted at 6:47 am by Lukas Velush

The rain has eased, but your morning commute could still be ugly.

The Snohomish County Department of Emergency Management asks the drivers traveling south this morning "to exercise patience, caution, and good judgment."

Translation: be ready for the worst.

Eastbound Highway 522 is closed at Highway 9, according to the state Department of Transportation. Westbound lanes reopened early this morning. Highway 96 (Seattle Hill Road) is closed east of 128th Street SE due to flood related damage to the roadway.

I-5, Highway 99 and Highway 9 are open.

Look for heavier than normal traffic volumes on Highway 9, Cathcart Way, 180th Avenue, Highway 524, and 228th Street SE as a result of the closures and re-routing of commuting traffic, officials from emergency management center said. Additional impact is likely on I-5 as some commuters shift west to avoid the Highway 522 closure.
