Student collects shoes for families

Granite Falls High School senior Jade Rondorf sits among some of the more than 100 pairs of shoes, boots and slippers donated to help families in Snohomish County.
Granite Falls High School senior Jade Rondorf recently ran the first of what she hopes will be an annual shoe drive called "Let's Walk in Their Shoes."
The shoe and footwear drive brought in more than 100 pairs of new shoes, boots and slippers, which were distributed to individuals in need by the Granite Falls Fire Department Christmas gift program and local food banks.
Jade came up with the idea for the shoe drive after speaking with representatives from several nonprofit organizations that help children.
"When children are distracted by cold, hurting feet, they often cannot focus on school studies," Jade said.
A cranes and maintenance crew at Boeing was a big contributor to the drive, Jade said.
The shoes were collected at PharmASave, Robin's Nest Gift Shop and Whistle Stop Coffee Shop. Payless Shoes in Marysville offered 10 percent off the purchase of shoes for the drive.
Jade, who plans to pursue a career in social services, has logged more than 400 volunteer hours. She is active in school sports, student government and other activities.
