Norma Smith is GOP fave

To no one's surprise, Republican Norma Smith of Clinton is the top choice of party activists to be appointed to succeed Rep. Chris Strow in the 10th Legislative District.

Thursday night in Mount Vernon she won nearly all the votes of precinct committee officers in the district that includes parts of Island, Skagit and Snohomish counties.

Also seeking the appointment were Joel Edmonds of Stanwood and Ed Drum of Oak Harbor - a late entry whose bio says he's "the idea man behind the Olympia Tea Party."

Nathan Whalen of the Whidbey News-Times has an account of what happened in Mount Vernon..

The names of Smith, Edmonds and Drum have been forwarded to the Island and Skagit county commissions and the Snohomish County Council.

Members of those elected bodies will meet jointly to make the appointment. It should happen this week because the Legislature starts work again Jan. 14.
