Athletes of the week
Girls basketball Jessica Denmon of Oak Harbor scored 23 points and sank five 3-point goals in a 63-47 win over Monroe. She scored 23 points and made six 3s and a game-winning free throw in a 79-75 double-overtime win over Marysville-Pilchuck. And she scored 10 points and had two 3s and eight rebounds in a 54-36 win over Cascade.
Boys basketball Rodrick Rumble of Oak Harbor scored nearly half of his team's 154 points in three games. He scored 16 in a 54-38 loss to Monroe, 27 in a 56-50 loss to Marysville-Pilchuck and 27 in a 66-61 win over Cascade.
Wrestling Bryton Reim of Kamiak won 10-9 in double overtime at 140 pounds to help the Knights take a 46-16 win over Edmonds-Woodway.
Girls bowling Baiba Rubinis of Jackson rolled consecutive 200 games and a 592 series in a 2-1 win over Ferndale. She also rolled a 221 game and a 594 series in a 2-1 loss to Cascade.
Boys swimming The Snohomish 200-yard medley relay team of Eric Pedack, Garren Reichel, Bryan Harvey and Logan Goodman swam 4A state-meet qualifying times of one minute, 40.16 seconds and 1:38.61. Both times would have been good enough to beat last year's state runner-up, but would have been second to the winning team -- Snohomish.
