Boeing logs order for eight 787-8s
Air Europa of Spain also secures rights for eight additional 787s.
SEATTLE -- The Boeing Co. has announced an order for eight 787-8s by Air Europa of Palma de Mallorca, Spain.
The order was previously listed on Boeing's Web site and attributed to an unidentified customer. It's worth $1.3 billion at list prices, but airlines typically negotiate big discounts on multiple orders
Air Europa also acquired purchase rights for an additional eight 787s.
According to a news release from Boeing, Air Europa will be the first Spanish carrier to operate the new 787. Boeing has received orders for 857 of the new planes from 56 customers worldwide. Test flights are scheduled to begin by late June and deliveries in early 2009.
Boeing rival Airbus also reported a sale Tuesday of 14 A350-900 jets to China Airlines, with an option to buy another six.
No financial details of that contract were disclosed. At list prices, the 20 jets would cost about $4.6 billion.
Taiwan's largest carrier signed a letter of intent for the purchase in December, and has now signed the contract, Airbus said in a statement. China Airlines intends to begin using the medium capacity, long-haul jets in 2015.
The A350 will primarily be deployed on the airline's long-haul routes to Europe, Australia and the United States.
