Nobody was injured by the avalanche on Snoqualmie Pass, which occurred before 7:30 a.m. today. The highway is closed while crews work to prevent additional avalanches there, said Lauren Penning, a spokeswoman for the state Department of Transportation. Drivers are recommended not to attempt to cross the Cascade Mountain passes today if possible. If they must, their vehicles must be equipped with snow tires or chains. Up to two feet of snow are forecast to accumulate at Stevens Pass by tonight, said Johnny Burg, spokesman of the National Weather Service in Seattle. “People should pay attention to avalanche forecast before they head out,” Burg said.
