The pairs-only adoption sale offers cats that are spayed or neutered, vaccinated and have microchips implanted. The suggested donation to Purrfect Pals, a no-kill, cat-only shelter, has been reduced from $100 a cat to $150 a pair. For more information, call 425-293-5467. Candy sale to benefit community charities Soroptimist International of Marysville plans to sell Valentine candy, with proceeds going to community charities. Donor Closet offers medical equipment The Multiple Sclerosis Helping Hands Donor Closet has more than 50 recycled scooters and power chairs for low-income and physically challenged people. Other medical items in inventory include hospital beds, lifts, bathtub transfer benches, shower benches, recycled and new wheelchairs and transport chairs and walkers. Dance, fundraiser set for Monroe student Dancing For Samantha, a dance and raffle fundraiser benefiting the Samantha Herman Medical Fund at Bank of America, is set for 6 to 11 p.m. Feb. 16 at Park Place Middle School, 1408 West Main St., Monroe. Live music will be provided by local rock bands Slingshot and JoyRide. Tickets are $10 at the door or in advance at the Monroe Albertsons on Saturday and Feb. 9. Samantha is a Monroe High School student suffering from a rare form of liver cancer. Monroe emergency office seeks volunteers Monroe's emergency management office is looking for volunteers who are available to help with the emergency management functions of the city of Monroe. Needed are people who can help with amateur radio communications, answering phones, data entry, community preparedness programs and clerical work. Volunteers should be at least 16 years old. Humane Society has blankets for dogs Low-income residents who have dogs that live outside or in unheated sheds or garages are eligible to receive blankets for their animals. The Humane Society in Arlington has about 30 queen-size woolen blankets that are available for dogs. The organization also has a few dog houses and dog food to offer. Tax return help available at EvCC The Everett Community College accounting department and AARP are teaming up to offer free tax preparation to middle- and low-income taxpayers, especially those age 60 and older.
