Dalai Lama to visit Seattle for five days

SEATTLE -- The Dalai Lama is scheduled to visit Seattle, April 11 to 14.

The five-day gathering is billed as the Seeds of Compassion Gathering. The focus of the gathering is to develop a strong community focus celebrating and exploring relationships, programs and tools that nurture and empower children, families and communities to be compassionate members of society.

Each of the five days can provide parents, educators, business and community leaders with an opportunity to better understand the benefits of compassion and concrete steps on how to bring compassion into their lives.

Tenzin Gyatso is the 14th Dalai Lama and is both the head of state and spiritual leader of Tibet.

Center to discuss the benefits of BudDhism

EVERETT -- The Kadampa Meditation Center of Washington will offer a free talk on Buddhism, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. today at the Everett Library.

The talk will be given by Gen Khedrub, a western Buddhist monk who is the residential teacher at the Kadampa Meditation Center.

The Kadampa Meditation Center is also holding branch classes in Everett, 7:30 p.m. Mondays at Anabel's Framing and Gallery, 2531 Broadway.

The classes, as described by education program coordinator Noreen Flack, is usually "an intimate group of 10, basic mediation and basic classes on changing your perspective."

Carol Brown, who is leading the Everett classes, feels that the practice and teaching of Buddhism is beneficial for the community.

"It's a public service. Everyone's got problems, everyone has got stress, and this is a way to help," Brown said. "Our current series is on stress."
