Lynnwood dog heading to best in group

A toy fox terrier from Lynnwood was named best of his breed this morning at the Westminster Kennel Club's 132nd annual Dog Show.

Champion Valcopy Kasey Kahne, 2, will vie for first place in the toy group during tonight’s final competition, which is scheduled to be televised from 8 to 11 p.m. PST on the USA Network.

If Kasey is named the best of his group, he will advance to the finals for best-in-show.

Rick Davis, who lives with Kasey in Lynnwood, was thrilled by the terrier’s win.

“In a way, I kind of knew it was going to happen,” Davis said. “I just felt it. Kasey has been doing good all year, and he’s so showy.”

Kasey's sister, Champion Valcopy Penelope Pit Stop, finished just behind him by winning the best opposite sex breed award.

Kasey is owned by Dana Plonkey of Lynnwood, Mike Smiley of Camano Island and Lynn McKee of Lake Stevens.

Last year, Kasey was named the best in his breed by the American Toy Fox Terrier Club, and he has also won a pair of national regional competitions. Kasey has scored many smaller best-of-breed victories and multiple first-place finishes in toy-group divisions.

This is his first trip to Madison Square Garden to compete at the Westminster show.
