Kevin Anderson, with Integrated Rehabilitation Group, has earned status as a certified strength and conditioning specialist. A graduate of Washington State University, has been with IRG since 2006 and now is at the Everett Physical Therapy and Sports Performance Center.

Cheffer is a jail maintenance technician with Snohomish County facilities management in Everett. Taylor is a facilities employee at Community Transit in Everett.
Karen Charnell, Patti Olson, Sondy McCutcheon and Ray Cook were honored recently by the Snohomish Chamber of Commerce. Charnell, director of the Snohomish Senior Center, received the Outstanding Community Service award for her work on a new senior center facility. Olson, Frontier Bank manager, received the Chamber Volunteer of the Year award for her work in the chamber's membership drive and ambassador program. McCutcheon, owner of the Cabbage Patch restaurant, received the Outstanding Contributing Chamber Business award for hosting chamber meetings. Cook, president of Snohomish Affordable Housing Group, accepted the Spirit of Snohomish award.

About 150 people are needed to fill the jobs that will be created when a Kohl's department store opens in April in Snohomish. Full- and part-time positions have been created. A job fair for the store continues this week at the Holiday Inn, 3105 Pine St. in downtown Everett. The Washington Association of Landscape Professionals has named the winning projects in the Environmental Landscape Awards program. Presentation of the awards was made in January during the association's annual conference at the Future of Flight Museum in Mukilteo. Winners include Pacific Earth Works of Monroe for the Brightwater wetland mitigation project; Northwestern Landscape for the Lynnwood Convention Center project; Terra Firma Hardscapes of Everett for a residential project; LandHoe! of Mukilteo for a residential project; Grounds Professionals of Mukilteo for the Front Yard Haven project.

Workforce Development Council of Snohomish County has been selected to receive a grant from the state school superintendent's office to work on a dropout prevention program called Building Bridges. The council applied for the grant in partnership with the Everett, Marysville, Stanwood-Camano school districts and the Northwest Educational Service District 189. Funds will be used to engage schools, families and communities in student retention and retrieval at schools throughout the county.
UnitedHealthcare recently donated $10,000 to the Everett Food Bank at Volunteers of America. The donation will be used to provide food as well as help the agency's counseling and educational programs.
Western Washington Fruit Research Foundation, an independent volunteer group supporting tree fruit research is raising money to save the foundation's community display garden at the Washington State University Northwest Research and Extension Center, 16650 Highway 536, near Mount Vernon. TCBA Fusion Basketball, Whitfield's Insurance, Ezzell's Chicken, Explosion Basketball and the YMCA of Monroe recently ran a free-throw marathon to benefit the Cocoon House, which helps homeless teens in Snohomish County. Members of the TCBA Fusion Girls Basketball team plan to shoot two hours of free throws and lay-ups. The girls have collected pledges that will be calculated depending on the number of shots that they make. TCBA Fusion Basketball is a program serving girls and boys in Snohomish County.
The Assistance League of Everett recently received a $5,000 grant from the McNaughton Foundation. The donation will be used to buy children's clothing for the organization's oldest and largest philanthropic program, Operation School Bell. Operation School Bell provides new school clothing for children of families in need from 14 Snohomish County school districts. The McNaughton Foundation, whose headquarters are in Edmonds, focuses on children, the support and education of youth, local charities and assisting and advancing the quality of life.

Boeing has awarded $93,550 to the Student Conservation Association Washington Trails Association and the National Parks Conservation Association to support flood recovery activities at Mount Rainier National Park.
The Fred Meyer Foundation has given three $3,000 grants to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Snohomish County. The money will be used at the Monroe, south Everett/Mukilteo and Alderwood clubs. The foundation is funded by donations from employees, the company and its customers.
Brown & Cole Stores, owners of Arlington Food Pavilion and Everett Cost Cutter, are offering a bag rebate of five cents for each bag the customer provides. The nickel is returned to the customer, or if the customer chooses, it can be paid forward to the Stilly Snohomish Fisheries Enhancement Task Force.
