Johnson Herald Writer One free agent made a visit to Seattle but left town without a contract on Friday. Another free agent looks like he's left town for good. On what was supposed to be a quiet first full day of NFL free agency for the Seattle Seahawks, the team still found a way to make news on Friday. A few hours after tight end Alge Crumpler flew back to Atlanta, Seahawks kicker Josh Brown reportedly agreed to terms on a deal with the St. Louis Rams. According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Brown was on the verge of signing a contract with the Rams late Friday night. Brown, 28, has been one of the steadiest kickers in Seahawks history. He tied an NFL record with four game-winners in 2006, including two against the Rams, and has hit 80 percent of his field goals (116 of 145) during a five-year career with the Seahawks. Last February, the Seahawks put the franchise tag on Brown to keep him through the 2007 season. But the sides were unable to agree on a long-term deal, and as of Thursday at 9 p.m. he officially became an unrestricted free agent. Brown replaces Rams kicker Jeff Wilkins, who announced his retirement earlier in the day. The Seahawks also hosted Crumpler, a tight end from the Atlanta Falcons, but Crumpler's agent said that the four-time Pro Bowler left town without a deal. "He had a great visit," agent James Williams said Friday afternoon. "Now he's coming home to talk about it. We're still talking (with the Seahawks) and communicating." Williams added that Crumpler has visited three teams and has a fourth visit lined up. The Seahawks did make one roster move on Friday, releasing veteran offensive lineman Tom Ashworth. The 30-year old was a disappointment since signing a five-year, $13 million contract with the Seahawks in 2006. He was slated to make $2 million in base salary this season.
