Marysville house burns

Still stands, but likely a total loss

MARYSVILLE -- Firefighters spent more than an hour early Tuesday battling back a stubborn blaze that spread through a home in the Sunnyside area.

Crews were called about 7:15 a.m. with reports of smoke coming from the attic of the house in the 7500 block of 44th Street NE, Lake Stevens Fire District Battalion Chief Perry Putnam said.

It took firefighters about eight minutes to arrive, he said.

No one was injured.

Firefighters from Granite Falls, Getchell and Marysville helped put out the fire, Putnam said.

While the house remained intact, it likely is a total loss, said Deputy Fire Marshal Mike Makela, of the Snohomish County Fire Marshal's Office.

The house was vacant and appeared to be in the process of being remodeled, Makela said. The loss likely will be around $75,000.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, he said.

Although Sunnyside was annexed into the city of Marysville in 2006, fire coverage is provided by the Lake Stevens Fire District through an agreement with the city.

A new fire station is being built by the Marysville Fire District at the intersection of 40th Street NE and 71st Avenue NE.

Completion is scheduled for October, Marysville city administrator Mary Swenson said.
