Mildred Simpson was selected as Everett's Citizen of the Year. Chosen from a field of 10 nominees by the Everett Junior Chamber of Commerce, she was the first woman to receive the honor. A member of the Everett School Board, she and her husband, Harold, operated a store on Hewitt Avenue.
The old East Everett schoolhouse still had a sign reading Public School District No. 91, but it had ceased operating as a school when the East Everett School District consolidated with the Lake Stevens district. It was about to get a new paint job and a new sign indicating its new function as East Everett Baptist Church.

Among the many fundraising activities of the Easter Seal Society was a Puget Sound Favorite Bartender election that raised $18,500 to help children. Names from Everett were Wanda Price, Bud's; Debbie Watson, Pardee's; and "all of the bartenders" from North Garden Restaurant, Pine's Tavern and Black Angus.
Verlie Quein of Mukilteo and Jack Kramer of Marysville won first-place blue ribbons at the Twin Harbors Beach Association Driftwood Show held in the Westport-Grayland area last weekend.
