I-90 westbound closed by snow-related crashes at Ellensburg
Associated Press
ELLENSBURG -- Crashes involving tractor-trailer rigs in heavy snow have closed Interstate 90 and U.S. Highway 97.
The state Transportation Department reported the westbound lanes of I-90 closed at 8:25 a.m. Wednesday at Milepost 106 at the west end of Ellensburg, and U.S. 97 was closed at 8 a.m. near Blewett Pass, between Ellensburg and Wenatchee.
Traffic was down to one lane on I-90 from Milepost 83 to Milepost 87 near Cle Elum, and the freeway was closed in both directions at Elk Heights, about 12 miles east of Cle Elum, because of a tractor-trailer rollover.
A State Patrol dispatcher, C.L. Clarke, says the collisions began mounting after heavy snow had been falling for a couple of hours.
Patrol and road crews were working to clear the collisions and reopen the roads.
