Skagit Valley Tulip Festival ready to bloom 3/28/08
Plot contrivances in '21' can't hide gambling film's inherent silliness 3/28/08

NBA might take its shakedown global

Today, Oklahoma City; tomorrow, the world. The NBA is talking about putting an expansion team in Europe within the next decade. First, commissioner and chief extortionist David Stern says, "We need an economic model that works."

For our European friends who may not speak English that well, that's code for, "Nothing says 'I love you' like a big, blank check to a billionaire."

Today's new movies include "21," the story of some nerds from MIT who go to Vegas and make a lot of money by counting cards at the blackjack tables.

The movie takes its title not from the ideal number to hit while playing blackjack, but from the number of broken bones you might receive if you try going to Vegas and counting cards yourself.

And it's time for the annual Skagit Valley Tulip Festival. Our friends north of the Snohomish County border welcome you to park in their driveways, use their bathrooms and stop in the middle of their roads to gawk.

Don't worry about all those horns blaring -- that's just the annual spring serenade.
