Local cucumber growers in an unpretty pickle

Posted at 11:42 am by Sarah Jackson

Skagit County, where one of the citizens’ favorite mottos is “Pavement Is Forever,” just took another hit in the farming sector.

Check out this story about cucumbers, a crop that’s likely to be much, much smaller this summer thanks to the loss of a major processing plant in Portland.

At a time when we need major food suppliers, such as the plant’s owner — Bay Valley Foods of Green Bay, Wis. — to buy local food, they’re not. Instead, they’re finding sources as far away as India.

    Boooooooo.

Do you have thoughts on the impending cuke crisis?

    I bet you do.
